“Wherever there is a human being, there is an opportunity for a kindness.” This quote from the stoic Roman philosopher Seneca gets close to my thinking over the past couple of weeks.
In the past three weeks, I’ve had several experiences with our friends from Target within the greater community. Two professional baseball games, a trip to Hoffman’s for ice cream, an end-of-summer bash, a board meeting, a family meeting, and several smaller events were on my calendar. Last week I was able to sit in on one of the HSM classes taught by Don Rowe of the Arc of Carroll County.
This brings me to the words of another stoic, Marcus Aurelius, who said, “The main thing we were made for is to work with others.”
These statements reflect the work of Target and all human service agencies. We are here to serve others and exist in kindness. The human experience, of which disability is a natural part, exists with others. It is a joy to live with the members of the Target Community. As we reach the three-month mark of my time here, I am thankful for the joy I have found among colleagues and friends.
May you find joy in your interactions this week!
